Motally team is back from MWC in Barcelona

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

The last time I was in Barcelona, I was competing in the aquatic World Championships in 2003.  This time around, I attended Mobile World Congress as one of the representatives of Motally.  Motally, had a booth located in the App Planet exhibit hall which was sponsored by Blackberry.  Day one was filled with awe and excitement.  The Fira de Barcelona is a huge venue with a beautiful fountain; aptly name the Magic Fountain, in the center. It was an inspiring location for the MWC.  Throughout the event, Motally received great traffic to our booth and we enjoyed having many of our clients stop by to say Hi.  At the conference, important announcements were made, new OS platforms revealed, fun after-parties thrown, great panels presented, and cool gadgets shown.  We even got to see our founder, Arte Merritt featured on the big screen at Alcatel-Lucent’s booth.  As one of Blackberry’s affiliate partners, we got to also enjoy one of their organized activities.  RIM hosted an amazing event at the FCB, Barcelona’s football stadium where we received a private tour of the museum, trophy rooms, and even got to set foot on the field.  One of the other highlights of the conference for me was attending the Women in Mobile Data luncheon. It was fantastic to see women come together and support each other in the mobile industry.  Overall, I enjoyed seeing the mobile industry come together to share insights, cultures, and move their businesses towards success.

Motally goes to Barcelona for Mobile World Congress

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Motally is currently in Barcelona for Mobile World Congress.  Find the team at the RIM Blackberry booth at AppPlanet in Exhibit Hall 7, Booth 7B26 and be one of the many partners, potential customers, developers and mobile enthusiasts who are stopping by to chat and learn about our mobile analytics offering.  We’re excited to be a part of this annual event which draws people from all around the world to learn about the latest trends in the mobile industry and to hear about the most recent product launches.  Despite the cold and rainy weather, more than 50,000 people, representing over 1,300 companies, from over 180 countries, are attending  attending MWC this year.  Some notable product launches included Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 Series and several new smartphones from HTC.  Other interesting things noted by the team at MWC include an eye-controlled headphone for MP3 players by NTT DoCoMo and a new technology that allows you to embed a 5 sec music clip inside a 1″ square image, which means you can use a Blackberry or iPhone to take a picture and translate that data into music.  Other highlights include a keynote given by Google’s CEO, Eric Schmidt who said that Mobile would be a priority for 2010 and revealed the company’s new mantra “Mobile First.”  He also shared with the audience that 60,000 phones with the Android OS were being bought everyday and emphasized the growing importance of cloud computing.  Meanwhile, Steve Jobs was named “Personality of the Year” by the Mobile World Congress awards committee even though he was not present at the show.

Motally Provides Import/Export APIs for data integration

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Here at Motally, we just announced our Import/Export APIs for data integration and are excited that this functionality is really resonating with the community.  Our goal is to give enterprises, publishers, and developers the maximum flexibility to control their mobile data the way they want to use it.

Our Export API feature allows customers to download the raw data into CSV, JSON and XML formats.  In some cases, customers might want the ability to merge the data into a single interface, such as integrating into a system like Omniture.  In other cases, customers might want to download the data into other internal systems, perhaps for financial modeling purposes or for analyzing advertising campaigns on a common platform.

Our Import API feature allows customers to upload data in bulk to send to Motally for processing.  This is particularly relevant for customers who might be interested in our white label solution and who have a user base that generates large quantities of data.  Also, for platforms not currently supported, developers can also write to the Import API and have a means to access Motally’s analytic processing engine.

Whatever the business reason for our customer, our Import/Export API enables them to do a lot more with their mobile website and application data and we are pleased to bring this functionality to the mobile analytics space.

January Device Report

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Motally is a mobile analytics firm that tracks mobile website and application usage.  Each month, we report on top devices by region in terms of mobile website traffic.

Top Devices by Region

Below are the top devices by region based on pageviews of mobile websites tracked by Motally in the month of January.  The data is presented in list format, as well as a table that summarizes the number of top devices by operating system.

Although the number of Android devices in the global Top 10 in January is the same as December, it is interesting to note the rise of the HTC Dream (or T-Mobile G1 as it is known in the US).  The HTC Dream is now responsible for over 10% of mobile website traffic in the US, up from just 3% last month.
